Just back from Benidorm with Dawn, spent the 3rd anniversary of Carl's Murder walking round the places he loved and remembering. Dawn is still in so much pain and still cannot accept what has happened.
Mar 17 2009 06:39 pm
Tomorrow will be three years to the day since our Carl was killed by a drunk driver. The pain of hearing that news will never go away, neither will the pain of knowing that his killer has been released from jail (if you can call it that!) so soon. If there is one thing I have learned is that the system is geared to offenders, and the innocent have to put up and shut up. For heavens forbid that we say anything that would offend the sensibilities of the reckless killers that drive drunk! I am still full of anger that our Carl's life was taken from him, and us, in such a way. I speak for myself when I say that the problem with the anger that I feel is that it takes over your life and can destroy it. I scream inside my head "IT'S NOT FAIR!!" but the people that need to hear that can't hear or feel the pain that I feel and I doubt if they would listen if they were inside my head! I hurt to hear my family's pain following this sensless killing. The loss of someone so suddenly is always a shock, but when it was so avoidable, the shock is so much more. No mother should have to bury her child and all the young men that knew Carl should not have to face the death of a loved Cousin or friend at such a young age. It is hard enough to deal with when you have a few years under your belt like I have. I want to know where is the help for the people that have lost a loved one in these circumstances? We are left to flounder in the dark, trying to find our way through it all. For many of us there will never be light at the end of the tunnel, but I pray that someday we will see a flicker of a candle light that will lead us out of the dark. The drunk driver that killed Carl has damaged a whole family and has wounded them deeply, but I say that enough is enough and we mustn't allow ourselves to dwell on this killer of dreams and hope. We must do Carls memory and life justice by living our lives to the full and pay tribute to him by holding our heads high. We will see Carl again on Judgment Day, and I know who we won't see there, and this gives me a great deal of satisfaction. CARL, May God bless you, his everlasting light to shine upon you. Amen. Your loving Aunty Paula x x x

Jamie Crozier has been released from Prison and is free to carry on his life - which is more than can be said for Fergy who does not have that luxury. As part of his release licence, he is not allowed in Pontefract, so can we ask anyone if they see him in Pontefract to report the fact to the Police so they can revoke his licence and put him back in Prison where the murderer belongs!
May 31 2008 03:03 pm
I've seen a lot of Government adverts recently on TV in the UK showing cars being crushed - really slick graphics as though these cars were being crushed in a scrap yard! - you seen them too?
Apparently, the Government have spent £500,000 (Half a Million pounds) to tell drivers that if you don't pay your car tax, the government will crush your car.
If it wasn't so serious it would be laughable! Here we have a Government who will crush your car if you don't pay them money, yet if you get drunk, get in a car and go out and kill someone, they will allow you to carry on driving for up to a year, then give you a light custodial sentence, and after just one year, you can apply to be transferred to an open prison and be allowed to spend 4 days and nights outside the prison living a normal life.
Can anyone else see whats wrong with this picture?
It seems that tax is more important than human life as far as this Government is concerned. How can Ruth Kelly and her ilk sleep at night?

THIS GOVERNMENT AINT DOING JACK SHIT ABOUT DRINK DRIVING SO I THOUGHT I WOULD TEST THE WATERS WITH THE NEXT LOT THATS GUNNA COME IN AND THIS IS THE E-MAIL I SENT.
E-MAIL SENT TO DAVID CAMERON LEADER OF THE CONVERSATIVE PARTY. LETS SEE WHAT HE HAS TO SAY:
dear mr Cameron,
my name is Dawn Ferguson and i live in Pontefract West Yorkshire. my only child carl (aged 18 at the time) was killed by drink driver Jamie Crozier on the morning of Saturday 18th March 2006.
It is actually too upsetting to go into the full story, if you need any more info please visit www.rememberingfergy.piczo.com to find out the full facts, but jamie crozier caused my sons death whilst twice over the legal limit and then set about to try and pevert the course of justice whilst my son lay dying in the back of the car. he then continued to drive until he was at court on 2nd feb 2007 and then got sentenced to 4 yrs on 20th feb.
nobody, but nobody has helped me. the cps was a complete waste of time, as was my flo, and im sorry but the justice system stinks. my sons killer had done 12 months in prison of a 4 yr sentence when he applied to move to open conditions which was granted and he is now out of prison 4 days (and nights) a week working. hey hey hey. the prisons are the new butlins........................
I would like to know what you would do if you got in? i am now a prisoner in my own home, because if i see crozier walking the streets i will kill him, and i bet i would do more than 12 months.
my local mp is miss crappy herself yvette cooper and her so called hubby runs next door. ed balls. i have written to her to ask for help in backing my campaign, but she refuses to answer, yet she says she want to make the 5 towns (where i live) a safer place???
what bull! drink driving is on the up, and nobody, well not this present government seem to care. i have been in touch with baroness scotland, stephen ladyman, god knows who else they are all prats anyway. and all they tell me is that when a positive reading is given when breathalised that does not mean they are guilty of a crime?????????????????????
I really don't get it. i believe it should be made law that if you give a positive reading then with immidiate effect the driving licence should be suspended until such a time as that person goes to court? it may not prove guilt, (but i cant see why not) but they should be off the road. if you dont kill someone you are in court in 3 to 4 days, if you kill someone or injure you are in court in 10 to 12 months, and that person is free to carry on...........
Lets say for example one of your ministers was accused of stealing from funds, would you not suspend him whilst it was investigated? probably, so why can this not happen with drink drivers????????????
i also have a site on a memorial site called gone too soon called fadd (families against drink driving) please take a look it is really not just me who feels strongly about this.
what ever happens i will never ever vote labour again, and alot of people in pontefract wont either. we are sick to the back teeth of "all prisons are full" excuse! not our fault. build more, do like they do in america make them walk the streets with plaquards saying what they have done.
I truly hope that the cons are going to be harder on drink/drug drivers. this scum does not deserve to be walking/driving our streets.
jamie crozier has had more help than me or my family, and i am the one with the life sentence, the one who will never see her little boy get married, have babies, celebrate his 21st birthday, all because of a repete drink driver. my life is over and yet he is working quite merrily away, yeah he may have to return to prison for 3 days a week, but hey what he earns is his to keep? is that right? what about all us taxpayers that are paying for his train ticket from prison to work, lodgings his board in prison??????????? all this stinks, i am in the process of losing my home because i have had so much time off work and havent been able to claim benefits coz i quit my job due to stress. and where was the help then??? yep obviously in the prison service.
even if you do not want to get in touch with me, or dont want to comment, please acknowledge that you have recieved this email.
kindest regards,

thank you so much even if you cant help me.
I have always been a labour supporter, but not no more. The bail act of 1976 with regards to intrin disqualification is supposed to be in place to help people, not the killer

It seems a lifetime since my PC blew up mysteriously, and since becoming "Mobile" again I have been cramming as much info to see where we are in relation to the idiots who drink and drive and kill.
I would like to be able to say that the UK Government was looking at the issue as part of the Road Traffic Act overhaul from November 2007, but alas they are not. Drivers who drink, Drive and then kill are still being given more rights that the people they kill and still manage to carry on driving for up to a year until they come to court. The sentence they recieve for causing Death by Careless or Dangerous driving is served at the same time as their driving ban which means that some scumbag who kills a child can be sentenced to 5 years in prison and given a 2 year driving ban which means in reality that the driving ban will be served 6 months before the idiot is released from prison! How fair is that? and more importantly - WHAT SORT OF DETERENCE DOES IT PROVIDE???
Do these faceless Politicians live in the real world? what sort of message are they sending out.
Ruth Kelly is the current Imbecile at the Transport Dept so why not drop her a line at ruth.kelly@gov.uk and see if she can explain it for you - cause I still can't get my head round it!
I am splitting my time now as I've just been appointed the Regional Secretary and Political Spokesperson for the Ulster Political Research Group. Now, a lot of people hear the words Northern Ireland and switch off, I won't use a resource like rememberingfergy to preach on about Ulster, but I may put a link to the UPRG site on the site once our site is up and running, I will get round to updating the site here as soon as possible but it will be slow as I have my UPRG work and I'm still a full time carer so time is short. Bear with me though and if you have any ideas on how we can improve the site or what features we can use, drop me a line in the usual way or email our Dawn.
Till Next time - Peace & Stay Safe

i listened with disgust yesterday that prisoners had their human rights violated yesterday due to the 24 hour strike by prison officers.
jack straw came on tv and said that no notice was given about this strike and prisoners had to be constantly locked in their cells (boo hoo hoo) AND wrong meals were getting served to them.
WRONG FRIGGING MEALS. WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY THE RITZ?????????
i listened to jack straw and thought about all the people who have been killed, robbed, raped, abused etc........... and i started to think well wernt their human rights violated? were they given notice that they were going to be attacked or much worse. no they wernt,
then he went on to say that prisoners couldnt have visiters yesterday (boo hoo hoo again) and that every body has the right to a family life.
what a load of bull shit. these people are in prison for a reason i believed to be punished, but again the criminals are getting better treated than the victim.
who do i complain to that my human rights were violated when my son was killed and my family was destroyed??? should it not be my human right to have a grandchild? the one/s that i will never have because my son was killed.
do i start shouting that my human rights have been violated because i no longer have a family life, coz its been shattered? i think not.
jack straw and the rest of the prats should go boil their heads, maybe that will enable them to understand that prison means punishment.
i would love to beable to visit and talk to carl in person one hour a week, but that is not to be, and the killer is lapping it up.
keep em locked up 24/7 i say and good on the prison officers for not listening to the government i am behind them 100%
my blog over for today.
thanks for reading.

Just a quick blog this morning.
I want to address a couple of issues that are really bugging me of late, so please bear with me. Firstly, I want to address the email Patricia Crozier sent to GTS accusing our family of waging a vendetta against Jamie Crozier on the 19th July 2007. The issue seems to be that Carl's Mam - Dawn wrote a poem to signify it being 17 months to the day that Carl was killed. She published it on GTS and it contained Jamie Crozier's name. This was a bone of contention to the Crozier family who - rather selfishly and heartlessly wrote to GTS and complained that Jamie's name had been used. One Mention and they cry foul!
This made me angry because neither Jamie Crozier - or any of his family have ever sought to express any remorse, or send condolences to Carl's Mother either during or after the trial. What does that say?
On the home page of rememberingfergy, I issued a disclaimer due to the last complaints the Crozier family made which resulted in swarthes of text being removed from this site by Piczo. The disclaimer clearly states that we do not offer speculation but stick to published fact as reported in the media and through the Courts.
Patricia Crozier and her family might want to ignore the fact that Jamie is now a two time Drink Driving Offender and is directly responsible for the death of Carl Ferguson, they may want to airbrush each and every trace of what Jamie did off the Web, but they cannot. We at rememberingfergy have no legal or moral responsibility to cover up the facts as they are to protect a killer. I feel nothing but contempt for the selfish and heartless actions of Patricia Crozier in trying to get Carl's GTS page taken off. If they choose to ignore the fact that Jamie Crozier is a repeat offending Drink Driver who now has a conviction for taking the life of an innocent person, then that is their business. But don't expect Dawn, me and the rest of our family to forget what he is responsible for. The Crozier family gave up that right when they failed to acknowledge the crime Jamie commited, and totally ignored the hurt and endless pain he caused by his own stupid actions in getting behind the wheel of a car when drunk.
For the record, We are not waging a vendetta against Jamie Crozier, We are waging a vendetta against Drink Drivers everywhere, and if that includes Jamie Crozier - then tough!
To quote a local saying from here in Northern Ireland - "Take yer Oil"!
Now, when me and my family came home to England to visit Dawn, Ian and the rest of our family, I was to hand deliver a letter of protest to the Constituency MP for Pontefract and Castleford Yvette Cooper MP. Not once had she contacted Dawn or myself in relation to Carl's Death or the campaign to make Interim Driving Disqualifications compulsary, yet surprise surprise, they day we arrived, Sawn recieved a letter from Yvette Cooper MP saying she had been hard at work speaking to ministers and Civil servents etc...etc
How Convenient that letter arrive within 2 days of me hand delivering that letter to her office in Castleford. Do these Politicians think I am so stupid not to understand what she attempted to do?
By making sure a letter was delivered to Dawn before I had chance to hand deliver my letter of protest to her, she takes the higher ground and is able to say that she has responded and is working hard to resolve the issues we have raised. Very clever indeed, but too little too late in my opinion. A good MP would have embraced the issue at the start, a good MP would have raised the issue publically and sought the support of the people in the constituency and surrounding area, Unfortunately, Yvette Cooper did not. Too Busy feathering her political career at the expense of those left to share the roads with drink drivers waiting to go to court to have their licence's taken!
Has Ms Cooper raised the issue of the Driver who killed Carl Blackburn with her Cabinet colleagues? The Driver responsible for his death is still driving now! (Notice I never mentioned the driver's name? - even though I know it! - Like I said Ms/Mrs Crozier, we don't mention names until they are released in the public arena!!!)
What about Justice for the Family of Carl Blackburn Ms Cooper eh? How long are the CPS going to carry on telling Violet and the rest of the Blackburn Family that they cannot take this driver off the roads?
I know Ms Cooper has people keeping an eye on this site - hence the miraculous appearence of the letter to our Dawn just before I arrived to hand deliver that letter of protest!
So Come of Yvette! why not come out into the open for once and lets know where you stand on the issue of innocent motorists sharing the roads with Drink Drivers who have killed and are waiting to go to Court. Where's the Political leadership you are supposed to show to your constituents! where's the assistance you should be showing to the Family of Carl Blackburn! Or are you going to prove my suspicion's that you are like the majority of MP's who take their pay, turn up at the odd photo opportunity and issue the odd statement rebutting all the allegations made against your lack of action, whilst offering no proof of what you have actually done.
I await a response with baited breath.
Right, Finally, I want to thank everyone who has left messages for me, thanking me for placing pictures of their loved ones on the Wall of Angels. Believe me, It is an honour for me to has a chance to remember so many special people, and although I don't leave candles, or tributes on your loved one's sites, I do read each and every one of them. So thank you to all our GTS friends, I hope you can utilize rememberingfergy as well as you all have in making GTS the success it has been.
Till Next Time,
Dave xox

Firstly, I must Congratulate Yvette Cooper - MP for Pontefract and Castleford on her promotion to Minister for Housing in the new Government. I know that to get a ministerial Job with all the perks and increased pay, a lot of time and dedication has to be put in. Perhaps this is why Dawns own MP has not Yet gotten around to repsonding to the letters Dawn sent to her regard to the scanderlous practice of allowing Drunk Drivers to carry on driving - even after killing innocent people. Maybe The MP for Pontefract and Castleford does not agree with the aims of Campaign4Carl? but seeing as she has not yet bothered to reply, I guess we will have to judge her thoughts on the matter based on the response - (or lack of) she has given.
When I wrote to Lord Lofthouse of Pontefract - who was Yvette Cooper's predecessor, I received a prompt reply in 4 days. We have been waiting since March for some kind of response from the current MP, and in that time, another young man lost his life at the hands of a drunk driver in similar circumstances, and the driver who was well above the legal limit is still driving now! - yet the MP for the area's both incidents occured can not be bothered to support her constituents and their concerns, and raise the issues in Parliment because she seems too busy feathering her nest and building her own career along with her Hubby who is also an MP for the adjoining area, and who has also just been promoted to a Ministerial position! I cannot comment on Mr Ed Balls MP as I have had no experience of dealing with him, but from what I have experienced of the "Honourable" member for Pontefract & Castleford, I would say, Yvette! If you can't be bothered supporting your own constituents, please vacate your job and allow someone who want to represent them the opportunity to do so!
It seems the petition on the PM's website has stalled. Only 313 people have added their names to it. Dawn did a great job on ITV Yorkshire's Calendar programme and Ridings FM but it only garnered 60 names from the entire region. The paper petition is recieving a response, and hopefully by the time the petition ends on August 6th, we wil have a lot of names to take to Downing Street and give to the new Prime Minister. whilst mentioning the PM, I must tell you that I did recieve a letter from the PM's office last week. I had written to him pleading with him to personally intervene, but alas, it seems I caught him as he was packing, because he would not intervene. Dawn is writing to the New PM so it will be interesting to see if he decides to respond in kind.
Preperations are mounting for the immenent visit to my Beloved Yorkshire in August with my clan. I intend to call on the MP at her constituency office in Castleford, and hand deliver a letter of protest regarding her lack of interest on the issue of Drunk Drivers. I very much doubt she will be there, probably down In London or on Holiday when I call, but it should be good craic.
By the time I get there, the online petition will have finished, and of course, I will be spending some time at the crash site and the graveyard to reflect on why this campaign has to succeed.
One final point is that I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to get involved with C4C, or sent messages of support. It does make a difference, and to those who have not yet done so - PLEASE log on and sign the online petition. PLEASE tell your local media outlets (TV and Radio) about what we are doing. Lets give one last push and see if we can get a change in the Law for not only Carl, but all those affected by the actions of Drunk Drivers. We really need your support and actions now, more than ever. And to David Hobbs and the lads at my beloved Featherstone Rovers - Good Start to the season! keep it up, and I'll be watching at the Chris Moyles Stadium - August 12th for the visit of the York city Knights! Wee Tom is Hyped up at the thought of seeing a Lance Todd Trophy Winner, and is looking for Fev to trounce York!!!
Yes indeed - the wandering Flapcapper is coming to town!!! We're ready - Are You?
Till next time - Drive Safe

well just had probation ere from victim support. they tell me that jamie crozier (scum bag) will be relesed from prison feb 2009, n that defo. wen did 4 yrs become 2? he will be on licence till 2011 but will b out walking the streets of pontefract.
this system stinks. he will probably remain in armly prison till then but can apply 4 months b4 the relese date to be relesed even earlier, although because of previous convictions they do not believe that will happen.
i really do not know what this world is coming to, but suppose i am not the only person in this boat.
to me 4 yrs should mean 4 yrs. wen jamie took our carls life i was handed a life sentence. i never asked for it nor did i do anthing wrong. in my case life means life to me so why does 4 yrs in prison only mean 2 yrs in prison for jamie crozier.
can somebody help me understand this please. many thanks dawn. xx

Dave, I couldn't agree more with ALL your comments.
I would like to add something on a personal point, slightly related. As you all know, following my operations to remove my brain abcess I was diagnosed with Epilepsy for which I have to take medication for the rest of my life.
The point I wanted to make is that no-one has "banned" me from driving, I have been advised that I ought not to drive until I am free from seizures for 2 years.
The longest I have managed to be free from having a seizure is 5 months.
I would not in my wildest dreams ever see myself in a position, even if I had been ok for the 2 years, ever getting behind the wheel of a car. I know that something is wrong with me, and even after the two years, there might be the slight possibility that I may have a seizure at the wheel.
I know I would not be able to live with myself if I caused an accident.
So why on earth did George feel it necessary that he drove himself. I find it hard to believe that his Doctor did not advise him not to drive when mixing prescription medication and recreational drugs!
He is in the position to employ a driver to get him from A to B, which I am sure that is what he is going to have to do now that he is banned, IF only that thought had struck him before. I am totally disgusted.
Regards to all - Paula Clark (Carl's Aunty)

Millionaire Pop Star George Michael walked out of court the other day with a sentence of only 100 hours Community Service for being in control of a car when drugged up. It doesn't matter whether they were prescription drugs or not. George Michael could have killed innocent people - FACT!
He posed on the steps of the courthouse trying to justify being found slumped in the driving seat of his car on a public road all because he was on medication. Is he for real?
Had that been Joe Bloggs off the street, then Joe would be looking at alternative forms of transport for at least the next twelve months - FACT!
How can a public figure seriously try to justify trying to drive when loaded up with medication - there is no justification. Some drivers have forgotten that driving is not a right but a privilage, and with that privilage comes a responsibility. Mr Michael forgot that and doesn't even seem to realise the death and destruction he could have caused.
If he was taking medication tht renders him unconcious, then he has the responsibility NOT to drive when taking it. It seems to me that George needs a reality check. Lets see him serve his Community Service visiting the families of those killed by drunk and drugged drivers and learning what his irresponsible actions could have caused.
I was shocked that a fan of his wrote on the BBC website "Thank you to the judge who let george walk out of Court into the New Wembley Stadium to perform in front of 80,000 fans"
I have to wonder if the same fan would have written the same had George Michael killed a member of this fans family!

Have you ever had one of those days where everything looks 50 times worse than they really are?
Well I've just come through two weeks of it - and Boy Oh Boy!, I don't want to suffer that again.
For the past two weeks ever since I recieved a letter from Stephen Ladyman at the Department of Transport, I have cut myself off from the outside world. I hit a real low and could feel myself falling deeper and deeper into despair. Uncontrolled Crying, anger, frustration, etc - I've experienced them all this last few days.
Why then? I can't really say, People who know me understand that I have been a full time carer 24/7 for the past 3 years without any help or support or Respite, plus I think I was trying to do too much with two websites to run and update, and the Government dismissing Campaign4Carl was the final straw! I think I basically just burned myself out.
I couldn't even answer my phone! so Sorry to anyone who was trying to get through to me. Sorry to anyone who emailed me - I will get back to you in the next couple of days. Right now I am working to update the site, and forum, and I'll post a more comprehensive explanation regarding the letter I got from the Dept of transport as soon as I can.

George Micheal - Caught Driving with Excessive drugs in his body - Caught last October, Appeared in court yesterday (8th May). Admitted his guilt. I am wondering if CPS asked for a interim disqualification to last till his sentencing on 30th May. I doubt it! And why exactly did the Judge allow George to address him with the "Oops, sorry, sharn't do it again" business? He did it before in USA with alcohol, if i am not mistaken. Put me right if I am wrong!
Lets keep an eye on this one - think it will be interesting.

I can't begin to tell you all how sick to the back teeth I am with the apathy in this country. Why don't people get it? I have been in contact with my MP Desmond Swayne (Con) for a number of months now and I have received a letter from him this morning, basically washing his hands of the whole situation. I have to say that initially he suprised me and got responses from the Home Office and The CPS pretty bloody quickly. However he is now telling me that he has gone as far as he can go! If Carl was his Child, I am sure that he would be shouting and screaming from the roof of Westminster to get his point across. but for me - well it isn't happening. He told me in a letter last month that he needed to consult and debate the point of getting drivers off the road as soon as detected, as he felt that the ethos of a person being innocent until being proved guilty should be maintained. I left the matter in his hands to think about it and waited, and waited, and waited. I then could wait no longer. I decided that I would hold the debate with him myself. I raised the issue that any other "driver" in any other type of vehicle, even suspected of being drunk in charge of a vehicle, be it plane, JCB, Tank etc would be banned immediately. he simply didn't take my point on board. He appears to have delibrately 'misunderstood' the point I was making. What follows is his latest correspondence to me
"Thank you for your further email of 19th April. Given the response of the CPS of "2nd April and the earlier response from the Minister dated 16th March, I am not persuaded that there is any more that I can properly do. I take the view that sentences for causing death by dangerous driving whilst under the influenc of alcohol should be much more severely punished than is currently the case. I do not, however, belive that I would wish to see the principle of innocence until guilt is established being eroded.
I am afraid I do not see any connection whatsoever between the tragic death of your nephew caused by a drunk driver and the recent incident reported on Virgin atlantic airways where it is my understanding a pilot previously sacked for failing an alcohol test has been reinstated because it has been shown that the test was a false positive consequent upon medicine that he had been taking. Yours Sincerely Desmond Swayne MP."
This man is stupid to the core if he doesn't see the relevance. He says it is his understanding that the pilot had been sacked. this is not the Case. As I told him in my letter, the pilot was a suspect, and the point that I was making was that he had been suspended from flying on that "positive reading". A blood test was then taken, and 1 week later, the results showed that the breathaliser had got it wrong, and the pilot had acetone in his breath, due to either food/medicine. The pilot was then free to continue flying again. The pilot was only grounded for 1 week. I pointed out that the speed all this was carried out, should also apply to drivers of cars, where a suspect would only have to wait a week to find out the truth. If only Drivers of cars were treated in the same manner as pilots of planes then our roads would surley be a safer place. I have to say that I feel like I am going round and round in circles, and short of doing a "Justice for Fathers" stunt, I just don't know what I can do next! Perhaps like my MP I just need to bury my head in the sand and pretend that this carnage isn't happening ....... Nah! I am better than that. I will find a way of making them listen. As you might tell from the length of this, I am absolutly disgusted by the inaction of those people who are supposed to represent US and DEFEND US, who are paid a fortune by US. MY GOD.. What the hell do they think they are doing?? F..k All
I think that's it for today - Thanks for reading this, Hope it makes sense.

Dave Malcolm (Carl's Uncle)
In 2004, there were 2915 deaths on the roads in England and Wales alone. I'll say that again - 2915 Deaths on the roads in England and Wales ALONE! (Source - Dept of Transport)
Of those 2915 deaths on the roads, 580 involved either a driver or rider being over the Drink Driving limit. That equates to roughly 21% of all deaths on the roads being atributed to drink driving.from 1995 until 2003, fines for Alcohol related offences in England and Wales fell from an average of £299 in 1995, down to £209.
During the same period (95 - 03), the number of breath tests administered fell from 703,000 to 534,000 - yet during the same period, convictions only rose from 93,000 in 1995 to 94,000 in 2003.
Now, try to recollect how much road traffic was increasing during that time? remember the Government telling us that we would have to pay more because the roads were becoming congested?
In every area of statistical research, the situation regarding Drunk Drivers has got worse. Fewer convictions, fewer breath tests etc... the list goes on!
It is a sad inditement of the Judicial system today where legislation exsists to protect the public - yet it's as much use as a chocolate fireguard simply because it takes too long to bring an offender to court. This is why Campaign4Carl exsists. For too long, the rights of the offender have taken precedent over the rights of society. And even now, Government will not help by introducing simple legislation to protect the public by suspending the Licences of any driver who has excessive alcohol in their system whilst driving.
Lets all be clear about this, Money is the reason the Government will not introduce this legislation. FACT! In his response to our enquiries, Vernon Coaker MP from the Department of Transport states that the Government is worried that it may have to pay compensation to a wrongly suspended driver. If the driver fails two tests (roadside and Police Station) then it is their own fault. Simple!
Campaign4Carl is about protecting road users from Drink drivers and nothing more. We have no other agenda, no gripe with Government, no interest in fame or fortune. We are driven not only by what happened to Carl, but also because of what other people have told us about their own experience's. We know that our situation is the norm and not a one off.
Last night I spent 3 hours constructing an Email Response to Stephen Ladysmith MP from the Home Office and demanded that his Department immediately order the CPS to make victims families aware of the legislation that currently exsists within the Bail Act 1976 and the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988. It is a process that the Government should already have in place as it is part of the 'Full Disclosure' legislation.
In England and Wales last Christmas, 9658 people were caught drink driving (source - Assn of Chief Police Officers)
9658 people who will recieve an automatic 12 month Ban from driving. Yet how many have had their licence taken away from them yet?
If Campaign4carl was implemented by the Government, I would say that next Christmas, the figures of positive tests obtained would dramatically decrease. Its Not Rocket Science! You don't need the Brains of a Scientist to work it out. If you like to drink and you take the chance to drive, then if you know that should you be caught, and that you would face an immediate suspension, then if you have anything to lose, you will think twice. If you are an habitual drinker and repeat offender, then you will lose your licence immediately and face the concequences of the choices you make.
Finally, I found an interesting statistic on the CADD website yesterday which puts things into perspective.
In 2004, there were 2915 deaths on the roads, during the same year, there were:-
209 deaths from AIDS/HIV
59 deaths from CJD
No deaths from Bird Flu
How much longer are Government going to ignore this issue?

Dawn (fergy's mam)
well thanks dave for setting this page up i could sit and go on all day.
Until you have dealings with the law you don't really know what to expect, and you would think that people who make these laws up have a clue what they are on about.
How wrong can you be.
My blag today is with the cps, since my dealings with the death of carl and after letters from the home office and minstry of transport i would like to say that the cps in charge of carls case knows nothing.
there is a bail law whereby the cps could have asked the judge to suspend jamie croziers licence because he was a potential danger to our roads, being that this was his second driving offence in 15 months. bearing in mind he'd done a 12 month ban in that time also. obviously the 1st ban taught him nothing, i asked cps how he could still be driving when 2 breath tests proved him guilty of driving with excess alcohol? I get told innocent till proven guilty. wot a load of bull s---. he could have asked the judge to impose an intrim disqualification order whereby jamie crozier could not drive until he had been heard at court. Y did he not do that? i asked enough questions. me dad had 2 debates with him outside the court regarding this, and me dad let rip i can tell you. the cps knew our families feelings, so the only thing that i can think of is that this cps guy did not have a clue about the bail act, and that is y he did nothing in our case. y then should we have laws and legislation that people who are supposed to help us and b on our side know jack shit about.
Also a drink driver has human rights did you know? when they have given a positive breath reading, and to me and other ppl in this country they are guilty (no 2 ways bout it) y are they presumed innocent until they confess. wot a load of crap. I was told by the home office and I quote "Account has to be made that the driver has human rights and he probably has a job and family and could lose both if his licence is removed before sentencing. the presumption of innocence whould say this should not occur until he is convicted". I ask you what is all that about? did carl have any human rights? do i have human rights? I do not work because of the strain and pressure i have been under (my job lost because jamie crozier killed my son) i have lost my family (carl being my only child and killed by a drink driver)
IN MY EYES POSITIVE BREATH TESTS PROVE BEYOND ANY SHADOW OF A DOUBT THAT THAT PERSON IS GUILTY OF OPERATION A MOTOR VEHICLE WHILT OVER THE PRESCRIBED ALCOHOL LIMIT. PLEASE TELL ME IF I AM TOTALLY DENSE AND AM COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT HERE.
How can a driver that has given 2 breath tests (both positive) be found not guilty? well here we go i quote "consideration has to be given to if at the end of the court process a driver is found not guilty or a reason is found to stop the prosecution, which would then compound the problems whereby we may need to give him back the months of disqualification he has had to endure, compensation for the job they may have lost and other reasonable claims." Now then again am i missing something here? are we not to trust our police and current breathalising equiptment? to me that is what is written behind this. how can a person be found not guilty of driving with excess alcohol? how can the prosecution be stopped? Loopholes for all these money ppl and mp's possibly, and then compensation!!!!
I ought to write to mr jamie crozier to see if he would like to personally compensate me for my loss of job, for losing my family, for the heartache and stress, for other reasonable costs ie; funeral costs, floral tributes, family notices and obituries, carls grave, petrol to get to the grave, wear and tear on the car. mmmmm. now then would he pay me that? nah i dont think so either.
The cps should know their jobs inside out, if this is the fault of people who make these laws then they need stringing up.
Jamie crozier had his car impounded. true. not to keep him off the road, but the fact that it was evidence. As soon as jamie crozier sobered up he was allowed to drive on our roads again. from 18 or 19th march 2006 he was allowed to drive our roads until 2nd feb 2007 (10 months and 15 days after he killed carl)this is not fair. the new law we hope to bring in is clear, to the point and no exceptions. Now how can anybody f--- that up? they cant is the answer.
CAMPAIGN4CARL THE LAW WE WANT;
ANY PERSON FOUND TO BE OVER THE DRINK DRIVE LIMIT WILL IMMEDIATLY HAVE THEIR LICENCE SUSPENDED UNTIL THEY APPEAR AT COURT.
There. simple, nobody slips through the net. If that was hanging over peoples heads to me it has to be the best drink drive deterrent this country has ever seen. potential drink drivers will think before they have one drink, and this i believe will make our countrys roads a much safer place, thus saving the lives of people killed on our roads each year, through no fault of their own, or throught their own stupidity.
thanks for reading my blag for today, and should you wish to comment on this then please use the guest book, i am open to listen if you think i am totally wrong in what i say, and happy to comment.
many thanks dawn.
