The Last Pictures
In early 2005, Carl decided to join the Army. After 6 weeks Training at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, The Army threw a Parents Day where parents could come and see what went on in Military Training, plus it was the first major milestone in a Soldiers career - Passing out of Phase 1 of Basic Training.
As Carl's Parents Day occured just 5 days before his 18th Birthday, his Mother Dawn decided to surprise Carl by taking his lifetime friend & Cousin David up to the event, and also to book a hotel for Carl & David.
These two pictures are priceless as they are the last two Family Photographs taken of Carl before the tragic Car Crash that took his life.
The last picture ever taken of Carl with his mother Dawn, taken on 18th June 2005 in a Hotel near Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire when she suprised him with Champagne to celebrate his 18th Birthday - and also him passing phase one of his Army Basic Training.
One of the last pictures ever taken of Carl. 17 weeks later after completing 23 weeks of Basic, Carl decided to defer his training and to enjoy the rest of his youth before comitting himself to his Army Career. He told his family that with all the war and conflict going on in the world, he wanted to experience life in general before taking the risk's associated with military service. Had he completed his training at the time, he would have been posted to 1st Battalion The Light Infantry in Afghanistan.
How Ironic it is that less than 6 months after taking that mature decision, he would be taken from all those who loved him in a horific car crash on the morning of Saturday 18th March 2006.
This Picture of Fergy was taken by a friend on the night Carl died.
